Multiple Injured as Turbulence Impacts Delta Plane into Sydney
A number of individuals were hurt following a Delta Airlines flight originating in LA to Sydney, Australia was hit by significant turbulence Friday morning.
Delta Flight 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, a representative for the carrier informed. Several cabin crew members were injured.
Local paramedics stated they assessed five patients, and transported a trio to hospital with minor injuries that comprised spinal discomfort and head pain. The patients' ages were between their thirties and seventies.
It is the latest incident of aircraft encountering severe turbulence, with experts saying that shifting climate patterns is a major factor.
There were 245 people and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the representative added, clarifying that the plane landed "without further incident" at Sydney Airport at 06:48 local time on Friday morning.
The NSW Ambulance Service reported they were alerted just a mere three minutes before the plane touched down, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.

In-flight turbulence is a common occurrence on aircraft journeys, and while instances of rough conditions are reportedly becoming more frequent, they are still very rare.
Research indicates that there are approximately five thousand cases of severe-or-greater turbulence annually, out of a total of over 35 million flights that are conducted around the world.
Severe turbulence is defined as when the sudden jolts of a jet experiencing rough air masses generate greater than a significant G-force on your body - a strong enough force to propel you from your seat if you were not fastened by a seatbelt.
As climate change modifies weather patterns, researchers alert that commercial aviation could become bumpier: warming trends and altered air currents in the upper atmosphere are projected to increase the regularity and severity of dangerous in-flight bumps.
